The founding of the city of Joensuu is celebrated on the 29th of November – Everyone welcome to join

The founding of the city of Joensuu is celebrated annually on the 29th of November. This year Joensuu will turn 175 and all residents are wished warmly welcome to take part in the day!

Coffee and awards ceremony

Joensuu Day starts with a morning coffee event from 9-10 AM, which is open to everyone at Art museum Onni (Kirkkokatu 23).

At 10 AM commendable citizens of Joensuu will be rewarded there in many different categories (Art museum, 2nd floor).

There are coffee events and music performances arranged from 9 AM-2 PM at the Joensuu City service points at four other locations as well: Eno (Kunnantie 2), Kiihtelysvaara (Aprakkatie 2), Pyhäselkä (Opettajantie 3) and Tuupovaara Ullakko (Onnelankuja 5).

Museums have free entrance on Joensuu Day: North Karelian Museum Hilma at Carelicum (Koskikatu 5) is open from 10 AM til 5 PM, and Art museum Onni (Kirkkokatu 23) from 9 AM til 5 PM.

At 12 noon singers from the Joensuu Conservatory of Music will be holding a concert at Rantakylä Church (Rantakylänkatu 2).

Live stream: Evening Event full of music and culture

The icing on the cake on Joensuu Day will be a festive evening event at Joensuu Areena, a night full of music, dance, circus and celebration!

On stage we will see the Joensuu City Orchestra, UEF Orchestra RytmiHäiriköt, Joensuu Wind Band, young musicians from Joensuu Conservatory of Music, Saija Tuupanen, Janne Mertanen, Vesterinen Yhtyeineen, dance performances by Tanssiopisto, circus by Sirkus Supiainen and there will even be a choir of 175 children performing! And yes – again coffee for sale.

The night is sold out but we can all watch a live stream from Areena from 6-6.50 PM at www.joensuu.fi.
